The seal peel tensile test determines the strength of the seal at a specific place on the package which can be helpful in setting the sealing parameters. This test involves measuring a segment of the package along one of the seals and cutting the package so that there is at least three inches (76mm)of material on each side of the heat seal. This sample is then inserted into the grips of a tensile test instrument with the heat seal centered between the two grips and the instrument initiated. The results are reported as max. force, mean and standard deviation.
This test method covers the seal peel test as defined in ASTM F88.
