Cold Chain Testing

cold chain testing, cold chain test, environmental test chambers, ISTA 7D

Anecto provide a range of cold chain testing services on packaging designed for the transportation of products that can be effected by normal environmental conditions. The cold chain distribution process is an extension of the Good Manufacturing Practice (GMP) environment that many products are required to adhere to as it tests the packaging solution to show how long the packaging can keep the products in the stipulated conditions, typically between 2°C and 8°C.

This testing simulates conditions that the products could be exposed to during their shipping duration, whether to a local or global market and is carried out through the use of a range of climatic / environmental test chambers.

Anecto’s experience provides an invaluable, independent test service for user of temperature controlled packaging to quickly evaluate the packaging up to its useful life.

What is cold chain testing?

Cold chain testing is commonly undertaken on any products (food, medical device or pharmaceutical) that must be controlled at typically between 2°C and 8°C in order to retain the freshness of food products or the efficacy of medical or pharmaceutical products.

Why do it?

  • To ensure that the product can be transported without being damaged by external environmental conditions.
  • To assure the stability of the product.

Additional tests could include:

Guidance Documents/Standards

  • ISTA 7D – which has different tests for different shipping methods and durations including both summer and winter conditions.
